The Children and Family Health Devon Christmas Hamper Project began in 2020 with a simple aim: to make Christmas a little brighter for young people in care and for care leavers who might otherwise find this time of year difficult.
How it all began
The project started with 100 hampers, each one put together with care and thought. From the beginning, the response from local supporters across Devon and Torbay was generous and kind. What began as a small idea quickly grew into something that brought real comfort and connection to those receiving the hampers.
Growing impact across Devon
Since that first year, the Hamper Project has reached more young people and families, spreading a simple but important message that every young person matters. By 2024, we delivered 250 hampers, each one a small reminder that the community cares. Behind those numbers is the story of what can happen when people come together to support one another.
The power of community
The Hamper Project has become a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a real difference. Every donated item, every hour of volunteering and every gesture of support helps to show that no one is forgotten at this time of year. It is a collective effort that continues to strengthen the sense of community we all value.
Looking ahead to Christmas 2025
As we plan for Christmas 2025, we want to reach even more young people and care leavers across Devon and Torbay. Starting early gives us the best chance to make that happen. Donations, offers of time and practical help will allow us to fill each hamper with things that are thoughtful, useful and full of care.
